Where is the Hideaway?

The Hideaway is located in Hammondsport, which is in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. The Hideaway is a 5 minute drive to Keuka Lake and 20 Minutes to Watkins Glen & Seneca Lake.

How many guests can the hideaway accommodate?

Accepted Answer

Due to safety and the unique attributes of the Hideaway we have a strict guest count of 8 people. This includes all guests age 24 months and older.

Do you allow pets?

Accepted Answer

Dogs only – We allow up to 2 well-behaved dogs per reservation.

Pet fee – A fee per dog will be added to your booking.

Tick awareness – We are surrounded by woods, so please check your pets daily for ticks and consider using flea/tick prevention before your stay.

Clean-up required – Please pick up after your pets, both inside and outside. Waste bags are provided.

Furniture – Pets are not permitted on the furniture or beds. We recommend bringing a pet bed or blanket from home.

Crating – Dogs must be crated if left alone in the house to ensure their safety and prevent damage.

Leash policy – Although The Hideaway sits on private land, dogs must be leashed outside the immediate deck and fire pit areas.

Damage – Excessive damage or extra cleaning due to pet accidents may result in additional charges.

Will I have Mobile Phone Service at the Hideaway?

Because of the terrain and distance from cell phone towers there is very limited to no mobile phone reception at the Hideaway. We recommend enabling "WiFi Calling" on your mobile device to make and receive phone calls while connected to the Wifi. *Subject to satellite disruptions and cannot be guaranteed.

What amenities are included?

We provide a fully equipped kitchen with oven , stove, dishwasher, cookware, coffee maker and everything else that most guests will require.

We provide all beddings and towels along with some extras for our guests.

The Hideaway is equipped with Starlink Internet and several TV's with Hulu and Prime Video. We've worked to provide the best internet experience possible in our location. With that said, internet speeds can vary depending on network usage and satellite locations. For most guests the internet will work well and allow them to stream HD video without issue. However both audio and video calls will experience intermittent dropouts.

Understanding Well Water

The Hideaway water is supplied by well water. This natural water source provides fresh, minimally processed water, contributing to the rustic charm and eco-friendly ethos of the property.

Guests should be aware that well water may taste and smell different due to its natural mineral content, and conservation is encouraged due to the reliance on groundwater levels.

Well water at The Hideaway is naturally soft, offering a smoother feel on the skin and more efficient soap lathering.

Guests who are uncomfortable with well water are urged to bring their own bottled water.

Is Smoking Allowed?

Smoking or Vaping inside The Hideaway is not permitted. Guests who wish to smoke must do so away from the cabin to prevent smoke from entering indoors. It's also crucial to properly dispose of cigarette butts to avoid fire hazards, rather than just placing them in trash cans. Limitations on the Outdoor Tubs

Seasonal Availability Notice:
The outdoor soaking tubs at The Hideaway are weather-dependent and are typically unavailable from November through April due to regional winter conditions. Freezing temperatures can make operation unsafe and may prevent the tubs from functioning properly.

To help manage this safely, we utilize smart water shutoff valves that automatically control the water supply to the tubs based on outdoor temperatures. The tubs may be turned on or off depending on current weather conditions.

For the tubs to be available for guest use, the forecasted low temperature for the day must remain above 40°F. If temperatures are expected to drop below this threshold, the water supply will remain shut off to protect the plumbing and equipment.

Availability during the colder months cannot be guaranteed and may change quickly with shifting weather patterns.

Question 12

There may be risks with the use of a sauna if you have the following conditions. Always consult a physician before using a sauna if you have:

High blood pressure or heart problems. Saunas make your heart work harder than normal.

Known medical conditions. Some of these include high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, abnormal heart rhythm, angina and other conditions.

Just finished exercising. After strenuous exercise, let your heart rate come down to resting levels first.

Recently consumed alcohol or recreational drugs. Using the sauna afterwards could affect your heart, impair sweating and produce overheating.

Take certain medications. Don't use a sauna if you take medications that interfere with your body's ability to regulate temperature or make you drowsy.

Are pregnant. According to whattoexpect, sauna use during pregnancy could lead to dizziness, dehydration or lower blood pressure.

If you're able to use the sauna, keep these safety tips in mind:

Avoid alcohol and medications that may impair sweating and produce overheating before and after your sauna.

Keep sessions short. You can build up your tolerance for the heat over multiple visits.

Limit sessions to 15 to 20 minutes. Even healthy individuals should limit their time to 15 to 20 minutes in a sauna.

Monitor how you feel. If you are sensitive to the heat, feel dizzy, nauseous or begin to feel uncomfortable, leave the sauna immediately.

Don't take a sauna when you are ill, and if you feel unwell during your sauna, head for the door.

Stay hydrated. Always hydrate beforehand, and drink two to four glasses of cool water after each session. Drink mineral water or juice to replace electrolytes lost through sweating.

Use the buddy system. Bring a friend or family member with you in case problems do occur.

Remove jewelry. Metal jewelry, including rings and small earrings, can heat up very quickly and cause skin irritation or burning.

Protect your hair. Sauna heat can leave your hair shafts dry and brittle. A towel or shower cap can help protect it.

Dress appropriately. Wearing loose fitting clothes, a swimsuit or a towel is good since heavy clothing can lead to overheating.

Rest and cool off afterwards. Lie or sit down for at least 10 minutes, then take a cold shower to help bring your body temperature to normal levels.

Sauna use can be very good for your body and relaxing when used safely.
